BOM region availability

I'm CTO of a Fintech startup, we already use Fly io and are pretty happy with it, and are really interested in using Tigris storage. But, due to India's DPDP Act and the RBI Payment Data Localization requirements, our company is obligated to store data exclusively in India.

We already use BOM - Mumbai region in fly.io for our workload, so I was expecting that the BOM region would also be available in Tigris, but as far as I can see in the documentation, it is not present.

Can you share when it will be available? And if it is planned to be launched soon, is there any way to enable it for us in some form of beta testing?

Hi Vlad, BOM region is indeed not available in Tigris. Our deployments generally are available in places where we see usage of Tigris.

How much data to you expect to store in Tigris in BOM?

Thank you for answer @ot. At the moment, I only have rough estimates. Within the next 2 months, we expect to store around 100 GB of data. Within the next six months, it will likely be around 512 GB - 1 TB, and within a year, it will exceed 1 TB. Hopefully, it is suitable for your team.

Also, if it helps, India has similar to GDPR regulations for different industries, specifically for financial, which require storing data locally. So there exists a demand for storage. And if you are interested in this region, I would be happy to share the cost reduction results after using Tigris within the FinTech community.

Deploying our service to new regions involves cost that requires significantly more data to be justified.

What we could do is have partial service availability there, meaning the request handling, authentication, authorization, etc happens in one of our existing regions while only the data storage is done in BOM. But that does mean that there will be ~150ms latency added to requests.

Hm, does it mean that the data still will be transferred through another region?

I believe in that case, we will not be able to pass the audit.

But latency is acceptable for part of our use cases, it shouldn't be a big deal.

And just for information, if you can share, what scale of data do you need for break-even? Is it TBs or PBs?

Yeah data will transfer through another region, though encrypted.

We would need a few 100GBs of data.
